In this week's video, Father John Riley points out that the apostles and holy women forgot what Jesus said about rising from the dead. The scribes and Pharisees remembered and asked for a guard at his tomb. But the apostles were hiding and holy women were planning to anoint the body. Why didn't they remember? Their faith and hope were nearly nonexistent. We can define faith as "the ability to believe in God and the mysteries which He has revealed." Hope is the ability to trust completely in God.
The apostles and holy women were still hoping for an earthly kingdom. They didn't understand resurrection. It is important for us to know that after resurrection, Jesus was not a ghostly creature. Jesus's body was laid in the tomb and his soul descended into hell for three days. On Easter Sunday he appeared in a glorified state of perfect union with God his body and soul. This is our destiny in heaven.
