Today marks the feast day of St. John Vianney. Many of us know St. John Vianney from his namesake parish in Maryland, or for his intense desire and devotion to bringing people close to God in His Church. Despite having a rough start to his life, having to navigate the climate of the French Revolution and later the reign of Napolean Bonaparte, he was steadfast in his faith, and eventually became one of the people whom he saw as heroes: priests.
Reflecting on the daily readings and ministry of St. John Vianney, I am inspired to continue to strive to bring myself, as well as others, closer to Christ. St. John Vianney’s call to the priesthood from an early age also inspires me to embrace my call as a Catholic to embrace others and to preach the Word of God in my life through my actions.
