St. James 40 Hours December 5-7

St. James 40 Hours December 5-7

Bishop Burbidge announced a period of preparation leading up to our Diocesan Golden Jubilee in 2024. The first year begins on the Solemnity of Christ the King (November 21) and is dedicated to the Holy Eucharist. To observe this and to deepen our parish’s devotion, we will have 40 Hours devotion from December 5 through December 7, leading up to the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. During that 40 Hours, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed around the clock for adoration, devotions, and private prayer. **On Sunday and Monday nights, only the main entrance will be open after 9pm.**

We will have extra times for Confession during the 40 Hours. We will also have set times for the praying of the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and the Liturgy of the Hours. But the most important element of this time is simple, quiet prayer before our Lord. The most important thing to do during the 40 Hours is to come to the church and pray. Finally, all of this is with a view of offering a better sacrifice – or offering sacrifice better – at the end. We hope to conclude the 40 Hours with more generous hearts given to the Lord.

Join us for Solemn Vespers Monday and Tuesday evening at 7:30pm.  Vespers are also known as Evening Prayer and part of the Liturgy of the Hours which includes specified times of prayer like Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer.
