October Features on FORMED.org

October 2017 marks the 500-year anniversary of when Martin Luther made his 95 Theses known to the world, an event that caused widespread confusion regarding the nature and authority of the Church and led to a fracturing of the Church into thousands of different denominations. There is no doubt that the Church is always in need of reform, but as historian Hilaire Belloc writes: “We agree that there were rats in the castle; we wanted to chase out the rats, not burn down the Castle.” Sadly, the increasing secularization of our culture is due in large part to Christian division. As Catholics, we need to know the answers to the question “Why do I need the Church?” and be prepared to boldly share those reasons with others as well as pray for Christian unity.
