St. James to Celebrate 125th Anniversary

1902 - THE STONE ST. JAMES CHURCH (MAIN CHURCH)

On Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the 12:00pm Mass, St. James Parish will celebrate the 125th Anniversary of its establishment as a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Richmond, the only Catholic diocese in Virginia at the time. Over the coming months, you can look forward to learning about the history of St. James Parish in this weekly section of the bulletin & website. In addition to the interesting history of the parish’s physical structures, you will read stories about the life of the parish through written records and oral histories of its parishioners. Truly, it is the resolute faith of generations of Catholics which have kept the foundation of St. James Parish strong and flourishing to this day.

The 1902 cornerstone featured above is from the main section of our stone church, which was our second building. Check out these photos of cornerstones of buildings in the parish today. These sturdy structures have provided the places for the faith of its parishioners to grow and express itself throughout the years.
