Catholic Charities is establishing a CAN program to serve the residents of Christ House. These individuals are homeless men who are in need of employment in order to become self-sufficient. The program will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Christ House dining area. The new program is under development and is in need of a number of key positions, including:
- CAN Coordinator who will be responsible for helping to develop and oversee the program. In addition to a commitment to the mission and objectives of the CAN program, other key qualifications are experience as a facilitator, comfortable in a religious setting, able to lead group prayer, and must enjoy working with other people as a team.
- CAN Job Coaches to work with Christ House residents during CAN meetings to assist them with skills they need to find meaningful employment.

Catholic Charities is seeking a volunteer to help improve communication and marketing ideas for this important ministry. Responsibilities include writing a monthly newsletter illustrating success stories, marketing the program to area job seekers using multimedia strategies, enhancing the program visibility with the Diocese, working closely with the CAN team of program coordinators and attending at least one CAN evening meeting per month.

Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Program is seeking Spanish speaking volunteers to assist clients applying for the Central American Minors (CAM) Refugee/Parole program. Volunteer in our Manassas or Arlington locations. We need individuals to help with reception and information and referral, as well as individuals who are bilingual with Microsoft office skills.

Catholic Charities seeks volunteers to serve on the Ball Committee to help make our largest annual fundraising event a success! Proceeds from this event help Catholic Charities to provide support to those in need throughout the diocese. The Catholic Charities Ball is held in February and is a fun-filled evening of dining and dancing. The Committee meets monthly and is comprised of extremely dedicated and creative individuals. No experience needed, however an interest in event planning and fundraising is helpful.

Catholic Charities - Hogar Immigrant Services is currently seeking volunteer ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and citizenship teachers. We have a need for teachers for spring semester in Manassas and Woodbridge. Volunteer teachers are needed to teach one class period per week. Classes in Manassas are held Monday through Thursday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Training and materials are provided. No previous experience or second language required!

Christians are Networking (CAN), a ministry sponsored by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington, assists people who are unemployed or under-employed. This is also a tremendous resource for recent college graduates who are new to the job market. CAN provides free career counseling, skills in navigating today’s job market, resume reviews, practice job interviews and networking opportunities. CAN is offered at St. Theresa Church, Ashburn; St. Philip Church, Falls Church; St. Martin de Porres Senior Center, Alexandria; and at Epiphany Middle School, Culpeper.

Catholic Charities St. Lucy Project is in need of drivers willing to support food distribution to and from our Manassas warehouse. A variety of weekday and weekend opportunities are available. We have a van and refrigerated truck, or you may use your own vehicle.

This spring, why not do some good while you clean by donating those unneeded gently used items to the Christ House Thrift Shop! We welcome donations of in-season clothing, shoes, jewelry, donations of antiques, collectibles, housewares, and small pieces of furniture such as plant stands and accent tables. Please drop off donations any day of the week between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. at 125 S. West Street in Alexandria.
Donating to our store supports our mission to help people in need within the community and throughout the 21 counties in the Arlington Diocese.

Musicians are needed at the Arlington Jail to support a newly-formed Catholic Praise and Worship program. The program will be Mondays from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Volunteers are needed at the Fairfax facility to visit one-on-one with those incarcerated; help organize religious services (Mass, confession, sacramental preparedness); conduct Bible study, faith sharing, and catechesis; provide Pre-GED tutoring, ESL, and teaching basic computer skills.

The ministry is designed to support men and women in our Diocese who have recently been released from prison and who are looking for shelter, a job, and most importantly, a relationship with God.

Catholic Charities is seeking volunteer coaches to work to assist job seekers who are recent refugees from other countries. This opportunity is for one, four hour shift during the work week.

Childcare/Activity Volunteers are needed in Woodbridge by the Catholic Charities St. Margaret of Cortona program for homeless families. Child Activity Volunteers will lead structured activities for the Wednesday night Children’s Program from 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. while their parents are attending Life Skills Classes. Sessions will begin Jan. 21 and run weekly until May 20. Orientation and materials for activities are provided by the program’s Child Services Coordinator.
- Volunteers must be 18 years old, or 16 if accompanied by a parent.
- Volunteers must also complete diocesan VIRTUS training.
